ABOUT US
The Media, Internet and Data Protection Bar Association (MIDBA), supported by the Bar of Ireland, is a specialist association for barristers who practice in, or have an interest in, those areas of law.
MIDBA seeks to advance knowledge in these dynamic and fast-developing areas of law. Given the seismic changes in the media landscape in recent years, and with many of the largest technology companies having their European headquarters located in Ireland, it is essential that law practitioners are kept up to date on developments in these complex and fast-moving areas of law.
MIDBA intend to hold regular seminars to promote awareness of the developing law. As well as an annual conference open to all members of the legal profession and relevant industry professionals, which will consider the major issues pertaining to media, data protection and internet law from the previous 12 months.
MIDBA offers full membership to practising barristers, and associate membership to an individual solicitor, or firm of solicitors.
Champion of Equitable Briefing
The Bar of Ireland’s new Equitable Briefing Policy, approved by Council in June 2022, sets out a number of supports that the Council provide to members, including but not limited to, the development of specialist areas of practice through the formation of the Specialist Bar Associations.
The Equitable Briefing Policy asks that solicitors make all reasonable endeavours to consider gender in selecting a diverse panel of barristers with the required seniority, expertise, and experience.
